Conference:

WOW Game On! Be there or be Square!

  • This is a full-day session designed to be the wind-up day of a conference. It is especially good for conferences that have been "heavy" or "information overloaded". This involves three areas that address: Change, Teamwork, Stress (work/life balance). We don't want to give away too many of the details so call for specifics. Bottom line, this is a fun, interactive, invigorating but packs lots of "can do" messages about Change, Teamwork and dealing with Stress.

Basic Fundraising - The Fundraising Circle - 3 hours
This is Fundraising 101 and even organizations that have been involved in fundraising can benefit from this session. Too often organizations take a "we need" approach to fundraising because they don't know that the #1 reason that people donate is because those people "have needs. This is called the LIA formula and is absolutely essential in Fundraising. The Fundraising Circle walks you through the steps to successful Fundraising.

Boards duties & responsibilities - 3 hours
"Why are you on this board?" You may be surprised with the answers you get. People are very generous with their time and often volunteer to be on a board, but become confused as to what their role is and what the staff's role is. This can cause some problems. This session focuses on how the Board can become involved in Fundraising and Public Relations, what their roles are, and even goes into how to hold an effective board meeting.

Volunteer Management - 3 hours
Use me or lose me! There are terrible stories out there about how people have been treated as volunteers ... and they are bad stories. Volunteer abuse and burn-out has become a real issue in the non-profit sector. What can you expect from a volunteer, what does a volunteer job description look like, how do you match volunteers with work that needs to be done, how can you see when a volunteer is burnt out and, most importantly, how do you thank volunteers (it's not always a supper); all these questions and more will be address in this informative three-hour session.

Capital Campaigns & Feasibility Studies - 3 hours
It's easy to say, "Let's raise $5 million", but not that easy to actually do it! Capital Campaigns are serious business and can be devastating to an organization that tries to raise more money than the community will support. The negative publicity and skepticism that follows a failed campaign can harm an organization for years to come. Feasibility studies are just one form of preparing for a Capital Campaign, there's lots more. This session will provide a step-by-step roadmap of how a campaign begins, and how it concludes - a must if you are thinking of raising large sums of money.

Special Event Fundraising - 3 hours
Okay everyone, listen up - golf tournaments are over done!!! Fundraising events are excellent at creating awareness, bringing people closer to the core of an organization or creating a favorable impression of an organization, but rarely do they actually raise a lot of money. That said... there is a place in fundraising, and specifically in Capital and Public Relations Campaigns for special events,  but they must be done proper and with maximum use of volunteers' efforts. This session will look through some of the most common Fundraising Events and offer templates to follow.

Crisis Management / Public Relations / When the media calls... - 3 hours
The media can be a non-profit organization's adversary or it can be your  worst nightmare. Learn how to cultivate the media to helping get your organization's' message out. Understand how your daily newspaper works, how electronic media works and what editors and news directors need to know about your organization so you can  make it newsworthy. This module will also discuss crisis management and what to do when the media calls you with bad news.

Challenging Change - go ahead, I dare ya! - 3 hours
If there are two constants in life they are that you will die, and you will have to deal with change many times. The non-profit world has undergone many, many changes since the '70s when money was fluid.  Change is going to happen and we can't always run from it, this module will give you some common sense approaches of how to deal with change ... in your life ... your career ... your organization and, it will help you minimize the stress that comes with change. This is a highly motivational session to end the series with.
